About Us

use code "welcome" for first month subscription Top Shelf Dog was born more than 10 years ago. Bode, a happy yellow lab and Dixie, a shy coonhound were struggling with weight gain and joint issues. With no commercial dog food available to address the dogs’ nutritional requirements, Top Shelf’s founder (Chip) and his father (Bud) decided to make a food that would. The ideal formula needed to contain a variety of natural ingredients, with each ingredient providing its own special nutrition. The four necessary ingredients they discovered were chicken for its protein, carrots for its vitamin A plus other nutrients, green beans for its iron, calcium, vitamins B6, A, C, and K, and quinoa, a “superfood” for its antioxidants and wide variety of minerals. Understanding that cooking fresh food every day was impractical, Chip’s dad worked with a leading university to successfully create and perfect a manufacturing process that would allow for the preparation of food that would then be shelf stable without freezing or refrigeration. THE TOP SHELF BRAND IS BORN & EVOLVES Fast forward 10 years and Chip and his wife Christy were in their kitchen, still cooking for their own dogs, but growing tired of juggling the task with kids’ school work, sports, work, etc. They tried some of the fresh, home delivery options, but found the frozen and refrigerated options were taking over their freezer. Defrosting the meals was a hassle. Left with no solid alternative and recognizing that many other friends and family were likely in the same boat, they set out to commercialize the original family recipe and complete what has become their family’s legacy. The result – a convenient, all natural, premium quality, fresh meal that requires no refrigeration and can be easily stored on a shelf. In 2024, Top Shelf Dog once again took steps to ensure we delivered on our “Top Shelf” promises. Based on initial owner and pup feedback we launched a new Beef Recipe and refined our packaging process to offer up to 24 months of shelf stability for the beef and chicken recipes. Our new packaging is better for the environment with lower carbon emissions and the food is even tastier for your dogs. With nutritious ingredients, convenient plans, and shelf stable meals, it's no wonder countless owners recommend Top Shelf Dog. FIRST MONTH SUBSCRIPTION Like so many of our customers, Chip spares nothing to give his pup a healthy life. Prior to founding Top Shelf Dog, Chip was cooking meals for his beloved dogs and/or purchasing meals via monthly subscriptions. But he found that cooking and/or storing meals for his pups was competing with the demands of daily family life, not to mention taking up valuable space in his fridge! Chip, his wife, and father realized other pet parents were in the same boat. That’s when Top Shelf Dog was born. Proud dog-dad to Coco, Tom is co-founder of Top Shelf Dog. Throughout his career he’s founded a number of successful companies. Next up: super-premium dog food! When Coco joined his family, Tom struggled to find an all-natural food that wasn’t full of by-products, artificial preservatives, and unrecognizable ingredients. Together, with Chip (and the help of some really smart nutritionists) they formed Top Shelf Dog…because he and Chip want only the best for their pups and yours! “We have two very different dog personalities, especially when it comes to their food and taste. When we first introduced Top Shelf neither dog hesitated and both devoured their meal.” We use cookies to improve your experience on our website.
